What is Scrum Poker and why you should use it
Scrum poker is a consensus-based gamified technique for estimating and timeboxing your work following the Agile principles.
The reason to use planning poker is to avoid the influence of the other participants. Planning poker should force people to think independently and propose their estimation simultaneously.
Say goodbye to all of those uncomfortable and disorganized planning poker sessions with your team. Join the Agile Digital Revolution with Scrum Poker and start estimating your work in a more efficient way.

Create a room or join to an existing one to start your planning sessions
When you first start using the app, you will be prompted to create a room or join to an existing one. You can create a room by clicking on the Create button: you can choose a name and set a pincode for security reasons. You can also pick the deck of cards you want to use.
Scrum Poker supports the following decks:
- Classic: The most common deck of cards used in Scrum Poker.
- Fibonacci: A sequence of numbers where each number is the sum of the two preceding ones.
- Exponential: A sequence of numbers of the form 2^n.
- T-Shirt: A sequence of values that represent the size of a t-shirt.
If your team is already using a room, you can join to it by clicking on the Join button and then you will be prompted to enter the room id and the pincode. You can also join to a room by scanning the QR code of the room.
Use a session to estimate a task, a story or an epic
Once you have created or joined to a room, you can start a session where you can estimate a task, a story or an epic. All of the members of the room can see the session and vote for the estimation of the ticket. The owner of the room will be able to start, reveal and close the session.
Depending on the deck of cards you have chosen, you will be able to vote for the estimation of the ticket by clicking on the card you want to vote. You can also change your vote by clicking on another card. Once all of the members have voted, the owner of the room will be able to reveal the votes and then close the session.
Most decks of cards support special cards like:
- Question Mark: Used when the estimation is not clear.
- Coffee Time: Used when a team member needs a break.
Do your homeworks before starting a Scrum Poker session
One of the main goal of Scrum Poker is to make the estimation of the tickets as accurate as possible. To achieve this, it is important that the team members have a clear understanding of the ticket to be estimated. This means that the team members should know the requirements, the acceptance criteria and the definition of done.
What you should do before starting a Scrum Poker session:
- Arrange a meeting with the team to discuss the ticket to be estimated.
- Make sure that the requirements, the acceptance criteria and the definition of done are clear.
- Make sure that the team members have a clear understanding of the ticket.
If the team members do not have a clear understanding of the ticket, the estimation will not be accurate and the team will not be able to deliver the ticket on time.
Session finished: what should we do next?
Once the session is finished, it's time to discuss the estimation of the ticket. Depending on the result of the discussion and the votes, the team members can vote again or the owner of the room can close the session and the ticket can be delivered.
When the room owner closes the session, it will be saved for future reference. If the team decides to vote again, it's important to reopen the session to unlock the votes. The previous votes of the session will be lost.
Now that the ticket has been delivered, it's time to start a new session for the next ticket. Meanwhile, the Scrum Master can report the estimation of the ticket in the backlog.
